Our Story

Bare Coffee began with a single conviction; that great coffee, like great wine, is made by people who genuinely understand it.

In 2011, founder Michael Datta set out to learn the craft of roasting and to develop premium single origins and blends of his own. His background in vineyards and winemaking gave him a passion and focus on terroir, balance, and flavour, with a deep respect for the regions where coffee is grown.

Michael researched extensively across the world's great coffee-growing regions; Brazil, Colombia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Honduras, Papua New Guinea, México, Guatemala, India, and many more; developing a genuine understanding of the character each origin brings to the cup.

After 18 months of research, product development and learning all that goes into to starting-up and running a successful; coffee business, the first blend was fin ally ready to go and share with the world.

Bare Coffee Company was launched with BARE COFFEE - MDV BAROSSA BLEND in November of 2013. This was launched on Queensland's Sunshine Coast in partnership with Sunshine Coast Coffee Roasters, where the BARE BAROSSA is still roasted to this day.

In the years since, Bare Coffee has grown from a coffee brand into a complete end-to-end solutions company for the industry. Working alongside a trusted network of specialists, Michael and the Bare Coffee team have partnered with hundreds of clients across Australia and the United States with many trusted colleagues/partners and clients in the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.

The Bare Coffee - Athlete Business Mentoring Program

In 2017, Michael Datta launched the Bare Coffee Athlete Business Mentoring Program; a response to a simple truth: too many talented athletes, amateur and professional, are never shown the tools they need to build a life and a business beyond sport.

The program exists to change that.

Athletes know how to show up, how to train, how to compete under pressure. Those same instincts, discipline, consistency, resilience. These are exactly what a good business is built on. They just need translating into a new arena.

We mentor and advise athletes through business and life after sport, drawing on the same network of industry specialists, operators, and builders that power every corner of Bare Coffee.

Whether it's launching a café, building a personal brand, investing wisely, or simply finding the next chapter, we're there for the whole of it.
